The General Assembly is once again trying to pull the wool over our eyes by circumventing the Fair Districts = Fair Elections campaign. Senate Joint Resolution 5 leaves those with the majority of power in charge of drawing Congressional districts as they see fit. By appointing the Governor, State Auditor, And Secretary of State, Senate President And House Speaker, this nonsense will allow for a political majority to continue gerrymandering as is conducted today.
Republicans in Columbus are clearly afraid of losing power. If not the case, they would merely allow the people of this State the opportunity to petition for change in November. Instead they see fit to ram a bill through both chambers that would land in the little voted in special election in May, where they would have the best chance of passage.
We need to stop this madness now. I, as your State Representative, want to see politics removed from the drawing of districts. I, not being a politician, but rather a fed-up citizen of this state, want to see a fair future for our children, not one written to ensure the longevity of one’s career. We need to take back our state, and it begins with electing folks who care about you, not party bosses in Columbus and D.C.
